About Becoming to Belong

Becoming to Belong Counseling & Coaching offers three primary pathways for couples in Katy, TX and virtually across Texas:

  • Couples Counseling & Coaching — 90-minute sessions with both Mindy and David, designed to help couples build new patterns of communication, understanding, and repair over time.
  • Relational Pattern Mapping + Progression — A structured assessment process that maps the hidden patterns shaping your conflict and disconnection before deeper work begins, giving couples greater precision and clarity.
  • Couples Intensives — Concentrated 2-day or 3-day experiences for couples who need focused intervention quickly, including those traveling from outside the Houston area.

All sessions are 90 minutes and include both Mindy Jones, LPC Associate, and David Hull, Relational Life Coach — a husband-and-wife team who bring both clinical and coaching perspectives to every session.

Mindy Jones, MS, LPC Associate — Mindy holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University (2025) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the State of Texas (Prelicense #99092), practicing under the supervision of Mark Cagle, LPC-S. She is verified by Psychology Today and holds additional certifications as a Certified Relationship Workshop Facilitator and Certified Cognitive Behavioral Life Coach. She is trained in Relational Life Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Narrative Therapy, and faith-integrated care.

David Hull, M.Div., M.A. — David is a CBT and REBT Certified Life Coach with a Master of Divinity and an M.A. in Theological Studies with an emphasis in Ethics. He is also NASM Certified and holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and Biomechanics. His background spans pastoral care, spiritual direction, trauma-informed coaching, and years of working alongside individuals in addiction recovery, relational breakdown, and major life transitions. He is trained in Relational Life Therapy and Internal Family Systems.

Together, Mindy and David bring a uniquely integrative perspective — clinical counseling, relational coaching, spiritual formation, and lived experience — to every couple they work with.

Services & Approach

Becoming to Belong Counseling & Coaching draws from three primary frameworks that work together to address not just behavior, but the nervous system, the internal world, and the deeper story each person carries into the relationship:

  • Relational Life Therapy (RLT) — Developed by Terry Real, RLT is direct, honest couples work that names patterns without blame and helps partners build genuine intimacy rather than managed distance.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) — IFS helps each person understand the inner "parts" driving conflict, withdrawal, and self-protection, so both partners can show up with more intention and less reactivity.
  • Faith-Integrated Care — For couples whose spiritual life is central to who they are, this approach creates space where faith is welcomed as part of the healing — never imposed, always honored.

Additional approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Interpersonal Neurobiology, Narrative Therapy, trauma-informed care, and Childhood to Adult Mapping — a framework that helps couples understand how early experiences continue shaping their adult relationships.

The right pathway depends on where you are and what you need right now.

Ongoing Couples Counseling & Coaching is best for couples who want consistent, structured support over time — building new patterns gradually through weekly or bi-weekly sessions. It's well suited for couples navigating recurring conflict, emotional distance, communication struggles, or who simply want to grow before things break down.

The Couples Intensive Experience is designed for couples who need focused, concentrated intervention in a shorter period of time — particularly those in acute distress, navigating betrayal recovery, on the verge of separation, or couples traveling from outside the Houston area who can't commit to weekly sessions. Intensives include the full Relational Pattern Mapping process before we begin, so we arrive with a clear picture of your relational system.

If you're unsure which pathway is right for you, we'd encourage you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. We'll listen to where you are and help you figure out the best fit — with no pressure to commit to anything.

Relational Life Therapy (RLT), developed by Terry Real, offers couples a direct and honest framework for understanding and changing the patterns that create disconnection, conflict, and emotional distance.

Some of the core benefits of RLT for couples include:

  • Naming relational patterns — including dominance, withdrawal, and emotional unavailability — without blame or shame
  • Helping each partner understand how early wounds and adaptive childhood behaviors show up in adult relationships
  • Moving beyond surface-level communication strategies toward genuine intimacy and honest connection
  • Building accountability without punishment — both partners learn to take responsibility for their role in the dynamic
  • Developing the skills to repair after conflict quickly rather than staying stuck for days or weeks

Unlike some therapeutic approaches that keep things abstract, RLT is direct. Couples often describe it as finally having someone name what's been happening — and giving them real tools to change it.

Relational Pattern Mapping is a structured pre-intake process that happens before ongoing sessions begin. It's designed to give couples — and their counselors — a clear, precise map of the relational system they're working within.

During the mapping process, you can expect:

  • A thorough exploration of each partner's childhood formation patterns and attachment tendencies
  • Identification of your specific conflict cycles — what triggers them, what keeps them going, and what each person is protecting
  • An honest look at fear systems, internal narratives, and communication styles that shape how you relate
  • A personalized synthesis — presented back to you as a couple — that gives language to what's been happening and provides a foundation for the work ahead

The mapping process creates greater precision and clarity so that when ongoing sessions begin, we're not starting from scratch. We already understand the terrain — and can move into meaningful work more quickly.

Finding a Couples Counselor in Katy, TX

Finding the right marriage counselor in Katy, TX starts with identifying what you actually need — not just finding the closest available therapist.

A few things worth considering as you look:

  • Specialization matters. Look for a counselor who specifically works with couples, not just one who includes it as a side offering. Couples work requires a distinct skill set.
  • The relationship with the counselor matters. Before committing to a therapist, most practices offer a free consultation. Use it. You're not just evaluating credentials — you're deciding whether you feel safe with this person.
  • Both partners need to feel held. A good couples counselor doesn't take sides. Both of you should feel seen and understood in the room.

At Becoming to Belong Counseling & Coaching, we offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working with us feels right — before committing to anything. Call or text us at (832) 563-0170 or email mindy@b2bcounseling.com to get started.

Yes. Becoming to Belong Counseling & Coaching in Katy, TX specializes in working with couples navigating betrayal recovery — including infidelity, emotional affairs, broken trust, and the long process of rebuilding after something significant has been shattered between partners.

Betrayal recovery is some of the most complex and delicate work in couples therapy. It requires a space where both partners feel held — the one who was hurt and the one who caused the harm. Neither can afford to feel like the villain if real healing is going to happen.

Our approach to betrayal recovery draws from Relational Life Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and trauma-informed care — addressing not just the breach of trust, but the underlying relational patterns that created vulnerability, and the internal wounds each partner brings to the work.

We offer both in-person sessions in Katy, TX and virtual sessions for couples throughout Texas. To schedule a free consultation, call or text (832) 563-0170.

Becoming to Belong Counseling & Coaching offers both in-person and virtual couples counseling sessions, making it accessible for couples throughout the Katy, TX area and across the state of Texas.

In-person sessions are held at our Katy, TX office: 633 E. Fernhurst Dr., Suite 703, Katy, Texas 77450. We are conveniently located for couples in Katy, Richmond, Sugar Land, Fulshear, and the greater Houston area.

Virtual sessions are available for couples anywhere in Texas via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Virtual sessions offer the same quality of care as in-person sessions and are particularly convenient for couples with demanding schedules or those who live further from our office.

Many couples find it helpful to begin with in-person sessions and transition to a hybrid model over time. We're flexible and will work with you to find the format that best supports your healing.
